PT Journal AU Lavicka, R TI Forgotten Saint Elisabeth's Hospital in Bor near Tachov and Its Construction during 1515-1518. ... as only God knows when we would wait to see a bishop to consecrate it SO Pruzkumy pamatek PY 2021 BP 85 EP 106 VL 28 IS 2 DI 10.56112/pp.2021.2.05 WP https://pruzkumypamatek.cz/en/artkey/prp-202102-0005.php DE Bor near Tachov - castle and hospital with Saint Elisabeth's Chapel - consecrating bishop Martin Goschl (1509-1526) - diamond vault - building development - Henry of Schwamberg († 1523); Christopher of Schwamberg († 1534) - Kestrany; fortress SN 12121487 AB The study of archival sources, the building and its style features revealed unknown circumstances and the construction date of the hospital with a chapel in Bor near Tachov. It was built by Henry of Schwamberg († 1523) with the assistance of his nephew Christopher († 1534) between 1515 and 1518 on the site of an abandoned house on the way from the square to the castle. The discovery, or rather the identification of the consecration charter provided evidence that Bishop Martin Goschl consecrated the roughly completed hospital chapel with three altars on 22 August 1515 in honour of Saint Elisabeth of Thuringia, the patron of the poor and ill. The hospital opened to people in need in the spring of 1518 but the construction continued for several more years. The last known record about the hospital dates from 1522.The chapel with a diamond vault and entrance portal proves that it was a response to the architecture of the adjacent castle that was rebuilt by Christopher of Schwamberg during 1510-1515 in the style influenced by Saxon architecture, especially the Albrechtsburg in Meissen. Furthermore, the same portal in the tower and the diamond vault in the chapel of the Kestrany fortress in South Bohemia, purchased by the Schwambergs in 1491, together with several written records help to date the fortress reconstruction to 1515-1520.
