PT - JOURNAL ARTICLE AU - Bednářová, Terezie AU - Zahradník, Pavel TI - New Findings on the Life and Work of the Baroque Sculptor Jindřich Weber DP - 2024 Jun 15 TA - Průzkumy památek VI - 31 IP - 1 IS - 12121487 AB - The presented text concerns the sculptor Jindřich Weber whose professional life was not only tied to West Bohemia but also South Bohemia, particularly from the late 1740 s to the early 1760 s. The review of the literary and source records enabled, in some respects, to add to the current state of knowledge about this artist. In addition to more precise information, the new findings about Weber's stay in the northern Písek Region - Kovářov and its vicinity - are particularly precious. Thanks to the newly discovered archival materials, it is possible to redate the length of Weber's stay in this locality (from the summer of 1755 to the end of 1756), to substantiate his participation in other art commissions (Lašovice and Staré Sedlo?), and to gain better insight into his lifestyle which was characterised by moving with his family according to his changing work offers. The new findings include Weber's variant design of the altarpiece gates perhaps intended for the parish church in Staré Sedlo. In certain aspects, the text disputes earlier conclusions; for example, it questions the attribution of selected works attributed to Jindřich Weber and re‑examines the basic life dates of the artist and the character of his artistic activity. Weber's designing practice came into focus: only a few regional creators can boast the same quality and numbers, and it has not been adequately appreciated yet.
