These discoveries as well as other documented findings remarkably shift the current knowledge about the appearance of a medieval living room. Later analogies raise a question when during the Middle Ages the living space changed from a smoky room into a living room where the stove heat could circulate and ventilate the room through an upper opening and which could also conduct combustion products away from light.
