Baroque Pools in Castle Gardens in Dobříš and Smilkov
Relics of Baroque pools with complex ground plan layouts have recently been discovered in the ornamental gardens of the castles in Dobříš and Smilkov (both in Central Bohemia). In Dobříš, depictions of erstwhile pools are found in the print of the garden around 1770. The pool in Smilkov, which was backfilled in the second half of the 20th century, is partly visible in historical photographs. Archaeological surveys in both localities contributed to the overall reconstruction of the ground plans of the pools. Interestingly, the historical depiction of the Dobříš garden reveals that the shapes of the pools are distorted.
