Forward Fortification of Cornštejn Castle
The article is devoted to the forward fortification of Cornštejn Castle (Znojmo Region) which is situated along the Moravian‑Austrian border. The fortification blocks an elevated position above the access road, from which the castle could have been seriously threatened during a siege. Its perimeter fortification consists of a series of linear embankments and a frontal ditch. On the highest place of the enclosed area is the ruin of a stone prismatic tower. Thanks to an exact analysis of several wooden elements, the construction of the tower was dated to 1478.
