Notes on the Work of the Baroque Painter Johann Christoph Handke
The Holy Family Painting Research and Rehabilitation

Luboš Machačko, Michal Vopálenský, Leoš Mlčák

The article presents the results of detailed restoration research of the Holy Family painting which has so far only hypothetically been attributed to the Baroque painter Johann Christoph Handke (1694–1774), active in Olomouc. During the restoration, overpainting was removed, revealing the figure of St Joseph. An authentic date 1753 was discovered on the reverse of the canvas. The analysis of style safely ranks the rehabilitated painting among Handke’s works.
