Church of Archangel Michael in Pacov. New Perspective on the Building Development and Appearance of the Parish Church before 1512

Roman Lavička

Průzkumy památek 2020, 27(1):17-44 | DOI: 10.56112/pp.2020.1.03

Based on the analysis of archival sources, the structure, and its style, the study presents a new perspective on the building development and age of the individual parts of the Pacov church. It was proved that the perimeter wall of the two-nave church dates from 1370-1390 and is older than the present choir. The choir was built during the first quarter of the 15th century, as evidenced by the incomplete date '14...', and the shell was equipped with reliefs of Saint Wenceslas, the coat of arms of the Malovec family, and the Arma Christi symbols. The present vault comes from the substantial reconstruction of the choir carried out during 1480-1490. The...

Jan Večeřa

Průzkumy památek 2020, 27(1):45-58 | DOI: 10.56112/pp.2020.1.04

This paper aims to introduce building history of the chapel in Švařec (Žďár nad Sázavou District). Origin of the chapel is unclarified but it is possible it was used by medieval miners in 13th century or 15th century. To this days the chapel remains in its Baroque form (around the year 1700). The chapel is located in an unusual place in deep valley outside the village Švařec. Building appearance of this chapel is atypical to others in this district. The chapel has quadrangular platform without earmarked presbytery or vestry.

Anna Grossová

Průzkumy památek 2020, 27(1):59-72 | DOI: 10.56112/pp.2020.1.05

Silesia was an inseparable part of the Lands of the Bohemian Crown from the Middle Ages to the signature of the Treaty of Breslau in 1742. Following the War of the Austrian Succession, the Habsburg Monarchy kept only a small part of Silesia which is today situated in the Moravian-Silesian Region and the Olomouc Region. The aim of the following text is to contribute to the issuewith the preserved fragment of the Silesian goldsmiths production of the 17th and 18th centuries especially the Nysa-based goldsmith Martin Voglhund that is today owned by the Roman Catholic Church in the Jeseník Districtand alsoelsewhere in Central Moravia which was discovered...

The Classicist Rosice Castle and Engineer Jan Tebich

Pavel Šopák

Průzkumy památek 2020, 27(1):73-78 | DOI: 10.56112/pp.2020.1.06

The exterior of Rosice Castle (the Brno-venkov district) reveals the traces of renovation carried out before 1850. The plans, designed by the builder Jan Tebich, only document this renovation as well as earlier construction stages and are not - unlike the earlier published statements - a project that would suggest a specific solution. The text raises a hypothesis why Tebich documented the existing condition: the domain owner Simon Georg von Sina probably intended to modernise the building that, however, did not materialise (Simon Georg died in 1876 and his daughter Helena showed no interest in Rosice). The text refers to analogies and attempts to precise...

Hadersfeld with Greifenstein Castle and Liechtenstein-Sparbach - History of Parks in Lower Austria during the Time of Johann I Joseph, Prince of Liechtenstein

Daniel Lyčka

Průzkumy památek 2020, 27(1):79-110 | DOI: 10.56112/pp.2020.1.07

During the time of Johann I Joseph, Prince of Liechtenstein, the surrounding landscape was cultivated, small voluptuary structures were erected, and Romantic style reconstructions of medieval castles were initiated both at Hadersfeld in Lower Austria and on the purchased domains Liechtenstein-Sparbach. The reconstructions were carried out based on the design of the Liechtenstein architect and construction director Joseph Hardtmuth and his followers: Joseph (Georg) Kornhäusel, (Joseph) Franz Engel and Joseph Leistler. A natural landscape park with an adjacent game reserve was created in Hadersfeld which included an ancient-style temple and an Egypt-style...

On the Purpose of the Niche on the Ground Floor of the Vizmburk Castle main tower

Vladislav Razím

Průzkumy památek 2020, 27(1):122-129 | DOI: 10.56112/pp.2020.1.09

An original complex-shaped niche is found on the ground floor of the main round tower (Bergfried) of Vizmburk Castle (the Trutnov region) from the last third of the 13th century. There is a shaft at the end of the niche which could be covered with a stone slab. The purpose of this niche has been a subject of discussion since detailed documentation appeared. The author believes that it is a well-hidden deposit box for a precious object of the castle's builder and defends his interpretation against the opinion that it was a toilet for prisoners.

Jan Vojtěchovský, Adéla Škrabalová, Vladislava Říhová

Průzkumy památek 2020, 27(1):129-142 | DOI: 10.56112/pp.2020.1.10

The exterior glass mosaic on the façade of the monastic building of Congregatio Fratrum Sanctissimi Sacramenti (Petrinum) in České Budějovice dates from 1904 and was made by the first Czech mosaic maker Viktor Foerster in collaboration with Jaroslav Pantaleon Major and Desiderius Lenz. The mosaic decoration reflects the Beuron style, thus corresponding to the murals in the church interior. The mosaic's unsatisfactory condition gave rise to the primary inspection. The mosaic decoration showed damage in the form of open defects that uncovered the bedding mortar after mosaic tesserae fell off, and also a big amount of cavities. At first, the initial restoration,...

Ars sine scientia? Practical Geometry of the Medieval Painting

Antonín Novák

Průzkumy památek 2020, 27(1):143-156 | DOI: 10.56112/pp.2020.1.11

The ambivalence of the construction order and free imagination are first viewed upon from the perspective of the practical auxiliary geometry - from the squaring and triangulation adopted from architects to the setting of the visual field format. Nevertheless, the author emphasises that the composition of the visual field represents - unlike the mechanical monitoring of golden ratios and further proportional outlines - a system of a higher order, in which the linear outline remains to be just one of the aspects, the initial stage of the work's origin. He further highlights the knowledge of perspective in the High Middle Ages as well as its rejection...
