About Průzkumy památek (Czech Journal of Historical Monuments’ Research)

Průzkumy památek / Czech Journal of Historical Monuments’ Research is a multi-disciplinary peer-reviewed journal, serving as a publication platform for extensive studies and short contributions arising from basic research of movable and immovable monuments of various kinds, primarily focusing on research of architecture. Emphasis is placed on publishing and assessing the research activities as well as publishing synthetic texts dealing with certain themes or a selected group of monuments. The main objective is to publish new findings from terrain research in the fields of archaeology, building history, art history, and restoration. Furthermore, texts on natural history, analysing the material essence of the monuments, are welcomed as well. The geographic scope of the journal covers the terrain research of the Czech Republic with overlap into the neighbouring countries.

The journal is intended for Czech and foreign researchers, accentuating the Central European area.

The journal is published by the National Heritage Institute, the Regional Office for Central Bohemia in Prague.

The journal is printed twice a year in printed version. With the exception of the most recent volume, the full texts articles are available for free in the PDF format on the journal’s website.

The journal is included on the list of peer-reviewed, non-impacted periodicals published in the Czech Republic. As of 2021, it is indexed in the EBSCO database.

Journal Scope

  • the importance of all types of architecture, works of art with special regard to works that are part of the structure (e.g. murals) and handicraft products;
  • building history research, archaeology, art history;
  • research of building constructions and technologies;
  • the methods of terrain research of monuments and restoration;
  • inter-disciplinary research of movable and immovable monuments (coaction of the humanities and natural scientific fields);
  • the importance of cultural and composed landscape (with emphasis on chateau parks);
  • the issue of the urban development of residences.

Journal Structure

The journal publishes two types of texts:

  • peer-reviewed research articles - studies (with an overlap comparison)
  • peer-reviewed research articles

In both cases, the texts meet all the requirements of scholarly articles. They bring new knowledge and formally meet the citation guidelines and other standards. The texts undergo a double-blind peer-review process where the final decision whether to publish the text falls in the competence of the journal’s editorial board.

Each issue consists of the Editorial, providing a reflection of a certain issue by renowned researchers with expertise in a field closely associated with the journal’s thematic scope.

The journal has a review column, highlighting selected publications dealing with research of movable and immovable monuments.
