Průzkumy památek 2022, 29(2):5-28 | DOI: 10.56112/pp.2022.2.01

Based on the analysis of the structure remains and sometimes ignored written and iconographic sources, the study presents new information about the appearance and furnishings of the vanished medieval parish church of Saint Nicholas in Bor near Tachov. No later than the end of the 14th century up to the mid-18th century, the funeral chapel of the prominent Schwamberg family of nobles was situated at the choir. The chapel's appearance and furnishings can be reconstructed to some extent according to written sources and historical vedute. A belfry with a guardhouse built at the end of the first third of the 16th century is a remarkable part of the structure...

The Castle, Fortress, and Palace in Žeranovice

Jan Štětina, Radim Vrla

Průzkumy památek 2022, 29(2):29-50 | DOI: 10.56112/pp.2022.2.02

Built to the southeast of the village in the late 13th century, the castle was the earliest residence in Žeranovice. It disappeared in the mid-15th century, and the Janaurs of Strachnov replaced it with a fortress erected directly in the village around the first third of the 16th century. A rectangular palace enlarged into a five-space two-story structure in the Renaissance remained from the fortress. After the mid-17th century, a prismatic tower was built which was transformed into a staircase tower during the Baroque renovation around 1700. At that time, more wings were built resulting in an enclosed four-wing palace. At the beginning of the 1850...

The hard coal mine Gabriela was established in the 1850s. As a property of the Teschen Chamber and later the Austrian Mining and Metallurgical Association, it was modernised and rebuilt over time. The greatest renovation dates from 1908-1915 when the central engine house, two poppet-heads, and one of the mining buildings were built. After the explosion of gas in the mine in 1924, the original generous concept was restored and architecturally completed by joining the mining buildings. When the mining was discontinued, the structures were removed with the exception of the engine house and poppet-heads with mining buildings that were included in heritage...

Chapel of Our Lady in the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in the Benedictine Monastery in Rajhrad

Zdeněk Kovářík, Daniel Chadim

Průzkumy památek 2022, 29(2):89-100 | DOI: 10.56112/pp.2022.2.04

The article deals with the Marian chapel inside the compound of the Benedictine Monastery in Rajhrad. Built during 1748-1749, the chapel continues the earlier construction in the compound based on the plans of Johann Blasius Saintini-Aichel. Nevertheless, its artistic, iconographic, and partially also material composition represents an independent project that was most likely created by the new generation of artists and artisans. Although the chapel was repeatedly in disrepair in the past and has been at least twice substantially reconstructed, a large number of original elements and surfaces was detected that provide evidence about the original appearance...

Log Houses in the Rokycany Region, Dobřív and Kařízek Examples

Stanislav Plešmíd, Karel Foud

Průzkumy památek 2022, 29(2):100-114 | DOI: 10.56112/pp.2022.2.05

The Rokycany and Zbiroh regions are regarded as localities of the Central Bohemian log house type. Wood was the prevailing building material in this area practically until the second half of the 19th century. The surviving historical folk houses mostly date from the first third of the 19th century, but structures built during the 18th century are no exception. A single storey log house with a gable roof or a half hip roof, overlapping above the doorstep and many times also over the façade gable, is a typical example of a local vernacular house. The houses have a common three-part layout with a storeroom. The front part is either made of one room or...

Folk and Classicist Elements in Northeastern Bohemia - Křivice Village

Jan Tlučhoř, Jiří Slavík

Průzkumy památek 2022, 29(2):114-130 | DOI: 10.56112/pp.2022.2.06

The folk and classicist façade decorations represent remarkable, yet rather scarcely documented, elements of vernacular structures of stone that are in danger in East Bohemia. Knowledge about them has not advanced much since the beginning of the second half of the 20th century. Therefore, aerial research of Křivice Village (district Rychnov nad Kněžnou) was elaborated in 2018 as part of the research task of the National Heritage Institute that is underway - DRKVO: Research of Intangible Monuments in the Czech Republic. Current Methodology Issues of Research and Documentation, Endangered Types of Monuments and Selected Examples, approved by the Ministry...
