The National Heritage Institute, Regional Office of Central Bohemia in Prague is a professional research organisation of state heritage care with the sphere of activity in the Central Bohemian Region. It is one of the fifteen offices which today comprise the National Heritage Institute (NPÚ), a professional state heritage care organisation active nationwide. The NPÚ is a state-funded institution within the meaning of the valid law on state heritage care (Act no. 20/1987 Coll., as amended) administered by the Czech Ministry of Culture. It is divided into the headquarters and regional offices.
As a professional and research organisation of state heritage care, the NPÚ ensures and conducts basic and applied research along with other professional, pedagogical, educational, publication, and popularisation activities to provide high-quality expertise in care for cultural monuments and preserved areas.
The institute applies its research results to its activities and disseminates them via publications and instruction.
The activity of the National Heritage Institute – Regional Office of Central Bohemia in Prague (hereinafter ‘the institute’) is defined by the valid Statute and Chief Organisation Regulations of the National Heritage Institute. On 1 January 2013, the individual departments adopted new Organisation Regulations for the Regional Office of Central Bohemia in Prague.
Based on the Organisation Regulations, the Heritage Care Department performs complex professional research, record keeping, methodology, conception, and assessment, as well as initiation, coordination, presentation, educational activities, and service in heritage care in Central Bohemia. The activity is defined by the region’s territory that includes the administrative districts of Benešov, Beroun, Brandýs nad Labem – Stará Boleslav, Čáslav, Černošice, Český Brod, Dobříš, Hořovice, Kladno, Kolín, Kralupy nad Vltavou, Kutná Hora, Lysá nad Labem, Mělník, Mladá Boleslav, Mnichovo Hradiště, Neratovice, Nymburk, Poděbrady, Příbram, Rakovník, Říčany, Sedlčany, Slaný, Vlašim, and Votice.
